Resumo da palestra:

The increasing globalization of science and business encourages collaborative interactions between institutions more than ever. To facilitate interchange between industry and academia, and between the US and Brazil, we are launching a program between the IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose California and the University os Sao Paulo electrical engineering department in Sao Carlos. Interaction between the two institutions will commence with a series of lectures over two weeks from IBM researchers, some delivered remotely, in a classroom on USP’s Sao Carlos campus. Research internships for Brazilian students of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) are envisioned to follow at the IBM Almaden Research Center. This program follows years of informal exchanges between USP and IBM Almaden researchers in the fields of nanotechnology, scanning probe instrumentation, polymer science, and medical optics. The interchange between Sao Carlos and Sao Jose is planned to eventually involve participation by IBM’s recently established research labs in Brazil. This walk will provide an overview of past collaborations and current opportunities to catalyze a dialogue for future collaboration. The Program can be extended to other universities in Brazil.
